We are firm of Chartered Accountants practicing in Worksop. We are very close to junctions for the M1, A1 and M18 which makes us readily accessible to many businesses in Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and the East Midlands and also the East Coast rail line which places us just over two hours from London.
Uniquely we are Certified Accountants as well which gives us access to the resources of both organisations and gives our clients the additional comfort of knowing that we are regulated and monitored by not just one but two professional bodies.
Our practice was founded in 1928 by Rex William Allott (who had started another practice in Rotherham in the previous year) and Douglas Strachan, who engaged two articled clerks, Maurice Thurling and Henry Jackson. During the Second World War Maurice and Henry went to fight for King and country, and while they were away carrying out their duty, Rex and Douglas split up. When the valiant servicemen returned, Maurice resumed his articles with Rex Allott, and Henry with Dougie Strachan.
Both Maurice and Henry qualified as Chartered Accountants and became partners in their respective firms, Henry succeeding to the practice on the sudden death of Dougie Strachan. John Harrison joined R W Allott and Co from school, qualified as a Chartered Accountant and became a partner in the practice in 1976. On Henry Jackson’s retirement in 1982 R W Allott and Co bought Henry Jackson’s practice from him, bringing the two practices back together.
Following Maurice Thurling’s sudden death in 1988 John Harrison bought his Rotherham partners out from the Worksop practice in April 1989 and has operated it as a sole practitioner since then.
