It appears that HMRC are concerned that whilst others will benefit from the influx of trade that the Olympics will bring they will lose out. It has been reported that HMRC has set up a Dynamic Response Team to ensure that small businesses located in and around the Olympic area are competing fairly themselves. The team will complete roving 'street sweeps' of businessses ensuring that as well as adhering to employer responsibilities like the Nationa Minimum Wage they haven't been tempted to cut corners with taxes and rescording sales. This will of course bring a closer inspection of whether businessses should be VAT registered and whether those that already are heve been collecting all that they should have.
Be warned, Big Brother is watching you.
