A number of problems have come to light concering the Revenues new computer system which is issuing PAYE codes. Taxpayers are angry because in most cases HMRC requires the taxpayer (or their agent) to inform them that the PAYE code is wrong, rather than automatically correcting the code at their end.
More problems are emerging every day, but here is a list of the known issues and what HMRC needs to correct the code.
State pension included as an incorrect amount or not at all.
Married couple's allowance missing, - HMRC need to know the name of the partner and his or her date of birth or NI number to correct this.
Married couple allowance included for a widow or widower where it is not due.
Personal allowance or blind person's allowance missing with an OT code issued.
Underpayment for earlier tax year included when it has already been paid, or coded-out in an earlier year.
Value of benefits in kind included at double the rate they should be, particularly for health insurance and car fuel - although HMRC say they have fixed the car fuel problem and will be correcting the affected codes.
Codes for employments that ceased some years ago.
Duplicate codes for the same employment or pension.
Over-estimated other income resulting in a DO code for a basic rate taxpayer.
Deductions for expenses not included where expenses claimed on tax return.
